Staff Stories
Claude Gallant
Estimator / Project Manager
Claude Gallant enters the room
with a pencil in one hand and a coffee and a cookie in the
other. Claude has been with MacLean Construction for 29 years
and he knows his stuff. His quiet confidence lets you know he
likes what he does and that he does it well. Claude agrees
MacLean Construction has been successful and continues to grow
in an ever more competitive environment due to the people and
the work ethic, but he is quick to shed more light on the
company’s secrets of success. He says in the construction
business these days, estimators estimate and then pass the job
off to project managers. He says if he had to estimate all day
long and never take part in the project, he would likely have
been bored of the job years ago. He says Keith MacLean had a
philosophy that if you estimated a job and then had to live the
life of the project as it’s project manager, you would become a
much better estimator and project manager as a result. And
that’s exactly how it happens. His summation of MacLean’s
success is simple, “good pricing and good management”.
Grant MacPherson
Technical Services
Coordinator / Engineer, EIT
Grant, a graduate engineer, is
also a new face in MacLean’s team and is another clear sign of a
company poised for growth. Many of the spectacular buildings
MacLean’s build are lead by local architects such as David Lopes
and Bill Chandler, but sometimes projects require
more of a
design/build approach and MacLean’s are in the preparatory
stages of offering those services to complement their existing
approach. Grant worked his way through engineering school as a
labourer in home construction and became hooked on the
construction industry. Currently, in typical Keith MacLean
style, Grant is learning the ropes. He’s estimating and project
managing and if he walks by a full garbage can, he, just like
everyone in the office, is expected to empty it. Grant is quick
to offer that he is an Islander from Long River and that he’s at
MacLean's to stay. He comments on the dramatic cedar entry way,
the stone work, the mechanical systems and the beautiful new
office environment, but like everyone else, he ends talking of
what a great spot it is to work and how much knowledge, help and
support is there for him.
